2. REAL-TIME LOCATOR

A. Real-Time Locator Survey

The FRF Real-Time Locator (RTL) is a custom mapping tool within the Survey123 app. Much as the other surveys allow HQ to track the FRF Response Team, the RTL’s purpose is to enable humanitarian organizations or other disaster response actors to track FRF’s location and fueling activity. This helps these organizations seek out and receive fuel assistance more easily and rapidly.

The information in the RTL map is populated through the submission of RTL surveys by team members in the field. It displays:

This survey requires internet/data connection. If you are in charge of submitting RTL surveys and you do not have connectivity, use another team member’s phone who has a connection or utilize their mobile hotspot (see this topic of the General Technical Instructions Tutorial for more info). Alternatively, plan ahead and go to a location where you know your phone will have a connection and submit the survey before arriving on site.

1. On the main Survey123 screen, select FRF Real-Time Locator and click Collect to open the survey on your device.

2. Time, Date and Location are the same for FRF Deployment Survey. To recap this topic, see video in Section 1.C.

3. As a general rule, fill out as much information as possible and provide a contact number so any humanitarian organization can get in contact with you (this will not be given to the public).

4. Set the Deployment Status to Active and submit using the Checkmark button (see image to the right) and press Send Now.

5. Before you leave the site, go back and edit this survey (see editing a survey in the video in Section 1.C), and change the Deployment Status to Inactive. It is essential that you do this so that other organizations are aware that they can no longer receive fuel at this location.

Regardless of whether or not the team leaves the distribution location, once you have finished distributing fuel at that location, you should always edit the RTL survey status to Inactive. If you do not have connectivity at the location, try to contact HQ so they change the survey.

EXERCISE

Complete a Training Real-Time Locator Survey with the following information (for the location map, choose any location) and click the checkmark at the end to submit it:

The team arrives on site to distribute fuel at 8am. FRF has 3,500 gallons of gasoline and 3,000 gallons of diesel to give away at this location. FRF will hand out fuel in 5 gallon increments, aiming to start at 9am. FRF’s contact number is 909 555 1234.

Once you have submitted the above survey, go back to it to change the deployment status to Inactive.
