Hurricane Maria

“Considered to be the worst natural disaster in Puerto Rico’s history, Hurricane Maria made landfall on the island on September 20th, 2017. Plagued by a collapsed power grid and widespread fuel shortages, Puerto Ricans suffered through flooding and extreme heat without access to medical facilities, refrigeration for food, or even clean drinking water.

Given the sheer scale of the need, Fuel Relief Fund deployed multiple teams of experts to Puerto Rico and ultimately gave away more than $162,000 USD in fuel. This free fuel was a life-saving commodity supporting rescue workers and medical personnel in operating emergency equipment and vehicles. It enabled survivors to run generators to light their homes, power their refrigerators, and charge their phones. With your contributions, we provided fuel to thousands of personal vehicles so that people could seek out medical care, visit displaced family members, and travel to disaster assistance service centers to receive support.”
