Fuel Relief Fund,
Fuel Relief Fund originated out of a quest to provide a basic fuel source for victims immediately following the devastation of a natural disaster. In 1992, a board member of Fuel Relief Fund, was living on the west coast. Several of his family members lived in Florida and were victims of Hurricane Andrew’s destruction. Immediately following the hurricane, countless people found they were unprepared and ill equipped to provide the basic essentials of life for their families. It was immediately evident that gasoline was one of those essentials!
In September 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf States. Due to a lack of fuel, victims were unable to find the food, water, and shelter they required. In addition, most lived on the power of generators for weeks and sometimes months, before power was restored.
On September 11, 2005, two of our current board members, sent a “fuel relief” tanker truck from California filled with gasoline to Mississippi and then on to Louisiana. In both locations survivors of the hurricane were given free gasoline to run their automobiles and generators aiding them in their time of need. The event prompted the set up of the nonprofit organization called Fuel Relief Fund.
Fuel Relief Fund knows it is not “if” but “when” the next disaster will hit the U.S., whether it is a major earthquake or hurricane. Furthermore, we know that the basic essentials of life… food, water, shelter, and fuel will be needed. By providing the latter we will help relieve some of the suffering in extremely difficult times. We also aim to help those currently in need. Fuel Relief Fund will allocate prepaid gas cards to worthy causes, so we can help more people who are in need of immediate assistance.
Fuel Relief Fund’s initial strategy is to enlist and implement the talents and resources of members of the transportation and petroleum industries. Our goal is to provide fuel resources to those in need. In an effort to help as many people as possible, it is imperative that Fuel Relief Fund accumulate sufficient funds as quickly as possible. Some people are having an extremely difficult time right now!
Through ongoing fundraising and successful receipt of monthly pledges and commitment gifts, Fuel Relief Fund will be able to help where necessary. Your contributions will be invaluable! They will help Fuel Relief Fund distribute gas cards to those in need right now and also to help prepare to mobilize immediately following a disaster.
It is also our pleasure to inform you that all personnel, including board members, volunteer their time and are not compensated by Fuel Relief Fund.
